Richard G.M. Tjon-A-Joe studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam. After studying in 1994, he joined ABN AMRO Bank, paramaribo office. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as an EXPAT in the Offshore for ABN AMRO Bank, curaçao office. From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the management team of ABN AMRO Bank, office Paramaribo, in the position of Treasurer.
In 2000 he joined Ernst & Young Corporate Finance and became a Partner in 2004. In 2005 he joined the board of C. Kersten and Co N.V. and was Chief Operations Officer until 2017.
In 2017 he made the switch to the legal profession. In addition to law school, he won the Masters in Business Adminstration in 2005 and the Executive Masters in Management Accounting in 2018. He has also taken several courses, including risk management and oil trading at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Oxford, England.
Richard Tjon-A-Joe has been involved in high-profile financing transactions of large companies in Suriname. In 2007 he worked on the first greenfield bond loan from a private company in Suriname. He specializes in mergers & acquisitions.
